MaxIDAS DS708
An interesting experiment was carried out with 2 Subaru models. One is 2009 and the other 2010, both North American models.
The experiment was with Subaru SSM III while using the VXDIAG VCX SE.
The VXDIAG performs well except for the faults created with the "Integ.Unit" and "Brake Control System".
Different names are used from different scan tools as an example: (Integ.unit, Integ.unit mode, BUI "Body Unit Integrator").
We can call it Body Control Unit for now.
If the MaxIDAS DS708 was used, there are no faults at the Integ.unit or ABS.
If the VXDIAG VCX SE is used, two or more faults are recorded, U1201 CAN-HS counter abnormal and U1202 CAN-HS bus off. The faults would not delete no mater the instructions from the scan tool. The ABS had C0057 ECM Communication Circuit. This happened on both models.
The MaxIDAS DS708 did find and delete the faults and no faults were recorded with a short drive and multiple key cycles. With the VXDIAG VCX SE, faults recorded again with near impossibility to delete the faults. There may be a firmware problem with the VXDIAG VCX SE.
However, the experiments continued with the key removed, both the VXDIAG VCX SE and MaxIDAS DS708 connected to Integ.unit with no faults. I can see the "K Line" and CAN activity pins 6 and 14 with a breakout box at the data link. The Integ.unit is active with the key removed and accessed bi-directional control to: Lock / Unlock the doors, open the tail gate, sound the horn, sound the alarm, move the transmission lever into neutral etc. etc.
MaxIDAS DS708 proved itself many many times with diferent models despite its age.
There are no software updates after Dec 31st, 2017.
If there is a model before 2017, the MaxIDAS DS708 may be the first tool tool to use.
